Osher Lifelong Learning Institute Receives $1M Endowment June 12 - After four years of generous grant support from the Bernard Osher Foundation, our Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at the U has been granted a $1 million endowment from the Foundation to help sustain our operations into the indefinite future. OLLI at the U is one of the truly exemplary organizations in the state for active learners 50 and over. U of U Awarded Endowment for Re-Entry Scholarships June 10 - The University of Utah was recently awarded a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation to fund scholarship opportunities for students to return to their college studies after being away from school for more than 3 years. This initiative is a partnership between Continuing Education and University College in Student Affairs. The Osher Reentry Scholarship Program funds 25 scholarships for students from throughout the state of Utah with financial need between the ages of 25 and 50 whose collegiate studies were interrupted for several years and who now wish to resume their studies and complete a four-year baccalaureate degree. New Development Officer and Grant Writer Announced June 2 - Continuing Ed is pleased to announce that Jennifer Mabey will be the new Continuing Education Development Officer. Jennifer will help craft a strategy to meet our significant and growing development needs, and will also continue to coordinate the AMES Program (the Academy of Math, Engineering, and Science at Cottonwood High School). Jennifer has development work experience in a number of settings, and her familiarity with and passion for the important work done here will serve us well. April Cordova, former part-time Development Officer, will continue in a part-time grant writing position. Her expertise and familiarity with our mission will be invaluable as we move forward with a new, larger, development mandate. Open House and Free Workshop Announced for the Nonprofit Academy at the U June 4 - On July 17, 2008, from 8:30-10:00 am, the Nonprofit Academy for Excellence will host an Open House and offer 2 free workshops: Funding Your Professional Development Strategy and 6 Ways to Become an Effective Board Member.
